PGI strengthens food, nutrition drive in far-flung barangay in San Mariano

February 10, 2026 Public Information Office

The Provincial Government of Isabela (PGI) intensified its milk-feeding and nutrition-support initiatives in San Mariano by delivering essential nutrition and food-security interventions on February 10, 2026, as part of its ongoing campaign to address malnutrition among vulnerable families.

The activity, held in the far-flung barangay of Disulap, benefited 45 malnourished and undernourished children aged 0 to 59 months, as well as lactating mothers.

Beneficiaries received pasteurized cow’s milk sourced from dairy cooperatives, starter chickens, eggs and poultry vitamins, as well as vegetable seedlings to help ensure a sustainable supply of nutritious food.

The distribution of starter chickens aims to encourage families to raise poultry for household consumption and as a potential additional source of income, while also improving nutrition, as chicken is a rich source of high-quality protein essential for the growth and recovery of malnourished children.

Meanwhile, the vegetable seedlings are expected to be planted in household vegetable gardens to provide fresh and nutritious vegetables for children and other family members.

The program was implemented through the collaborative efforts of the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), Provincial Veterinary Office (PVET), and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA).

The activity is aligned with the “Walang Gutom” program, which seeks to ensure access to adequate and nutritious food for families in need and to improve the living conditions of vulnerable sectors through access to safe, quality food.

Barangay officials expressed their gratitude to the provincial government for bringing the program to their far-flung community, citing its importance in improving the nutritional status of children and mothers in the barangay. – Isabela PIO
