Isabela Governor backs nat’l gov’t effort to solve classroom shortage

February 11, 2026 Public Information Office
Isabela Governor Rodito T. Albano supported the national government’s push to address the country’s chronic classroom shortage by signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Education (DepEd) and other governors at Heroes Hall, Malacañan Palace, on February 11.

The MOA formalizes a partnership between the national government and local government units (LGUs) to accelerate the construction of classrooms nationwide.

Under the agreement, DepEd will provide technical standards, classroom designs, and funding, while LGUs like Isabela will lead procurement and construction.

According to DepEd, over 145,170 classrooms remain insufficient as of December 2025, forcing schools to hold classes in makeshift spaces such as basketball courts and open areas, and sometimes implement shifting schedules.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. emphasized that the partnership formalized through the MOA aims to ensure that every Filipino child has access to a safe and decent classroom.

Governor Albano stressed that the agreement represents a major step toward providing safer and more conducive learning environments for schools across the province. – Isabela PIO
